Environment & Sustainable Practice
Our Commitment to Responsible Interiors
At Bright Bay Design, we recognise that the interiors we help shape have both an immediate and a lasting influence — on the people who live in them, the teams who work within them, and the environment they occupy.
Interior design choices — from finishes to furnishings — can contribute to healthier, more comfortable environments while reducing environmental impact where possible. We strive to integrate sustainability into our specifications and everyday operations without compromising on durability, functionality or resident wellbeing.
Sustainability in Specification
We seek to specify products and materials that support healthier environments and responsible resource use. Where care performance requirements allow, we prioritise:
Low-Emission & Responsible Materials
We specify low-VOC paints and finishes to promote better indoor air quality and reduce long-term maintenance.
Certified & Recyclable Flooring
Safety floors we choose are A+ BRE rated and often partly made from recycled content, with low emissions and adhesive-free options.
Sustainable Fabrics & Textiles
Curtain and upholstery fabrics are selected for longevity and safety — many are OEKO-TEX certified, inherently fire-retardant and recyclable.
Responsible Wallcoverings & Carpets
Where specified, wallcoverings use FSC-sourced paper, and carpets are chosen for durability and recyclability while meeting care environment performance needs.
Operational Actions
Beyond specification, we aim to reduce our own environmental footprint:
Our office is powered by a renewable heat pump and 100% renewable electricity.
We maintain a largely paperless practice and recycle all waste streams.Packaging we use is either recycled or recyclable.
We are working towards carbon neutrality through verified offsetting projects, including broad-leaved tree planting in England to help absorb carbon and support wildlife habitat.
Environmental Responsibility
We understand that sustainability is not an add-on — it’s part of designing long-lasting, thoughtful interior environments for care homes.
Where appropriate, we can work with clients to:
Identify environmental performance goals for a project.
Offer guidance on materials that balance performance with sustainability.
Address specific sustainable standards or certification requirements
