Bright Bay Design was appointed to create the interiors for Maycroft, a new-build 60-bed care home providing both general nursing and specialist dementia care.
Designed with a warm country-style aesthetic throughout, the project combined carefully considered care design principles with homely, welcoming interiors tailored to the differing needs of residents across both floors of the home.
Project Overview
The purpose-built home was designed to provide general nursing care on the first floor and specialist dementia care accommodation on the ground floor.
Bright Bay Design developed full interior schemes throughout the home, including bedroom designs, communal lounges and dining areas, circulation spaces and a dedicated hair and beauty salon.
The interiors were carefully planned to create a cohesive yet varied environment, balancing practical durability and operational functionality with comfort, warmth and individuality.

The Brief
The client’s vision was to create a welcoming country-style care environment that felt comfortable, familiar and non-institutional while supporting the operational needs of a modern care home.
Particular attention was placed on ensuring that the interiors remained engaging and varied throughout the home, helping residents feel connected to their surroundings and enhancing everyday wellbeing.
The brief also called for distinctive bedroom identities and thoughtfully designed communal spaces that would encourage social interaction, relaxation and meaningful daily experiences for residents receiving both nursing and dementia care.
Our Approach
Bright Bay Design created four individual bedroom schemes inspired by the changing seasons, giving different areas of the home their own identity and visual character.
The schemes incorporated carefully coordinated palettes including soft yellows and mauves for Spring, pink floral tones for Summer, rich ochres and rust shades for Autumn, and calming blues and neutrals for Winter.
Ground and first floor lounge and dining spaces were each given their own distinctive design approach, helping to create variety and familiarity throughout the home.
A dedicated high street-style hair and beauty salon was designed as a key destination space within the home, combining luxury, comfort and practicality to create a safe and highly functional environment for both residents and staff.
Interior Features
As with all Bright Bay Design projects, the interiors were completed with carefully coordinated finishing touches that help transform a care environment into a true home.
Bespoke artwork, ancillary furniture and thoughtfully selected accessories were specified and installed throughout the project to create warmth, personality and visual interest.
Corridor spaces were enhanced with occasional furniture, artwork and resting points to support comfort and encourage engagement as residents move through the home.
These carefully considered details help create a richer and more welcoming everyday environment while supporting orientation and wellbeing.
